Effect of Health Education Using Flipchart Media on Clean and Healthy Behavior of Barana Posyandu Cadres

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of health education using flipchart media on the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of Posyandu cadres regarding Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design was conducted involving 36 Posyandu cadres at the Barana Public Health Center, Jeneponto District. The intervention consisted of interactive training sessions using illustrated flipcharts that conveyed simple, culturally relevant messages related to PHBS. Data were collected using a validated KAP questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was employed to analyze the data. Results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in knowledge, attitudes, and practices after the intervention (p < 0.05). This suggests that flipchart-based health education effectively enhances cadres’ comprehension and implementation of PHBS principles. The use of visual and participatory media, such as flipcharts, was shown to be engaging and accessible, especially for community health workers with diverse educational backgrounds. These findings are consistent with previous studies that support the use of visual tools in public health communication. Incorporating flipchart-based methods into regular training programs is highly recommended to strengthen the capacity of Posyandu cadres, ultimately improving the delivery of preventive health services at the primary care level.
